The Radical press is much incensed at Mr Gladstone giving his advice to correspondents regarding the liquor traffic, veto by the House of Lords, religious matters; also on education matters and State' schools. They declare that Mr Gladstone ought to have remained silent after retiring from the leadership of the party. The British training cruiser Calypso is overdue. During the gale on the 24th ult. she separated from her consorts near the Canary Islands, and has not been. seen since. The Admiralty believes that the vessel's machinery has broken down, and that she is coming on under sail. Vienna, November 10. The Minister of Agricultural declines to reduce the duty on Aus* tralian meat, & r : - Calcutta, November 10. Owing to the tyranny of the Rajah, the natives in the Nyaghurand Orissa districts have broken out in revolt, The military and police have been de<spatched to the scene to quell the disturbance. Rio Janeiro, November 10, R.M.s. lonic left on Friday night with her meat in good condition. Thursday Island, November 10. The steamer Talyuan reports that on the yoyage from Japan to Hongkong the French cruiser Forfait drew up alongside, and fired two shots across her bows, and demanded that she should show her ensign. This being done, the vessel was allowed to proceed. A full explanation of the incident will be demanded by the British Government. Ottawa, November 10. The Hon. McKenzie Powell, Minister of Trade aud Commerce, has ceived six tenders for each of the eight routes of the Pacific Cable. All the tenders are below the estimate drawn up by Mr Sanford Fleming. The details are to be sent to the Colonial Governments.
