FROZEN MEAT TRADE MeSSKS HeNUY S. FITTRH AM) SOKB, nififit salesmen, report nuclei' date:— LONDON, October Gth.—During the past fortnight the trade has been very slow, iin d supplies in excess of the demand;' the wither also has bean somewhat unsettled The supplies of Home killed and Continental rauttonare increasing, and although prime, small sheep aro selling fairly well larger ones and those of inferior quality are not in much demand. The same remarks apply to Now Zealand mutton, for whereas, prime, small sheep are going off fairly well, the inferior quality mutton is very plenti' ful, a'nd meets with a very slow demand. Among the North Island ,sheep there have been a great many, thin sheep, vf ry plain in the legs, and, in fact, inferior to many if the Australian and River Plate sheep.

Many buyers are tiring of such poor quality, and are buying Australian sheep in preference. With the North Canterbury mutton the fault is often just the reverse to this, for in many parcels lately to hand there have been a very considerable uumber of maiden ewes that have been very fat on the ribs and slight of meat. There are plenty of Australian and River Plate sheep on hand. Holders are anxious to sell, and prices are weaker. The supply of good American beef has been very short, but there has been plenty of inferior beef, and some very low prices have been taken dining the week. In consequ* ence of this, the demand for frozen beef has been very slow, and prices are somewhat weaker. The demend for New Zealand Lamb is now very slow, A few choice one are in demand and realize good prices, but the large quantity :if Dutch lambs now arriving (as is usual at this time of the year), spoil the sale of second class New Zealand lambs, To day's prices are as follows -.-Scotch sheep, Oid to per lb; English sheet), Cd to 7d ; Continental sheep, 4d to Gifd ; Ewes, 4A-d to 5d ; Canterbury (N.Z.) sheep, 4.4/1 to^d; Wellington (N.Z.') sheep, 2jd to 3id ; Australian sheep, 2|d to 2Ad ; River Plal;e sheep,2|d to 2Ad; Queensand beef, hind quarters 2kd, fore quarters 2d ; American beef, hind quarters (prime) s|d to Gd, (inferior) 3d tc 4d. fore quarters (orirae) 3d to 3Jd,(inferinr) l£d to 2id ; New Zealand lambs, 4.fd to sfd.
