In connection with the trial, shipment of chilled beef by the steamer Port Pine, it was found that the chilling machinery was stopped at Colombo, and the meat had to be frozen. When the machinery stopped the meat was in excellent condition, and experts state that they are convinced of the possibility of conveying chilledmeat to England, provided that sufficient steam is furnished for the re«frigerating chamber. The consignees intend to institute legal proceedingsoving to the stoppage of the nmchi* nery damaging the meat.
