Struck with the idea, he'dressed in similar style, and even went to the length of driving about the city in a, four-in-hand. At length he identified himself so completely with the Eriperor r of Russia, that he gradually began to experience tha cares and dread the dancers to which the latter is exposed. One day he awoke with • the fixed idea that he was Alexander III:;' Soon afterwards his peace of mind was disturbed by the infernal machinations of the Nihilists, and at last he had to be confined in a lunatic asylum.
