THE GENERAL ELECTION.
. . 'TO THE EDITOR, , Sib,—Your leading; article of'' to-day ;is naturally 'somewhat ; *' sick." : 'There are ' several items relating to the'Waipa 'election whereon you :do not touch.. No reference whatever' is made to the important part played by the Bank of New Zealand and its satellites,-incompelling the misguided "agriculturists" to vote for Mr Langt You do not even dwell upon the creditable position taken by Hamilton West; Ngaruawahia, Mercer, Drury, and Hunua-five out, of polling districts-recording:a inajority i r a'Kairist i Mr-Lan?. >You seem to 'ignore tlie dismal fact that' the 1941 electors who 1 voted for -Mr Lanft; have : thereby virtually-'disenfranchised themselves and • their fellow' electors ! f6r the snace of'three years-bar' happy "accidents," : of 'which . latter we have had niit a.few in connection with M.H.R'?. for Waipa. Surely your claim "That the (1941) electors are Liberals of the true stamp,' etc,'" is a. weebit feeble, inasmuch' as that misguided crew did their level best to grind down the inhabitants 6f this fair colony to the sweet wills of the big monetary. institutions, of, the land sharks, and of the holders of ten thousand acres of land (and upwards) a piece. No! thanks to the wise administration of the Ballance and Seddon Governments, : and finally by the almost unanimous voice of the people thenigelves, the days of plutocrats are numbered. This colony now' stands' in ' a fiiir way to be the happy home of those who are willing to work for their living, not for, th.ose "idlers" and' "absentees" who would for ever,play at "dog-in-the-mangev'' with their land—land ■ so questionably in the ' "bad" old days;'. Returning to the general . ;with;the roasses. has led me to diverge. "The , ticking of tho candidates returns" (I quote your own words) 1 shows 50 for Seddon and bis; Ministry ; 1G good wholesome "Oppositionists" (who are-pot ashamed to so declare theniselves)/^a'nd' 4 sickly: "Independents," among which latter ''crowd'-poor Mr Lang has the honour himself. . Dick—- ' tator! Moritui'i te Salutant!! VaeVictis!!! —Yourstruly, : -:r%>■' : . THOMAS GRESHAM, ,Te Awamutu, 30th Jfyv,ember,lß93;;
