RAILWAY ANOMALIES.
* Undkr this heading we recently published a letter from Messrs Crosby Bros,, contractors, Mangawhara, culling attention to certain rail charges, which, to them, seemed inoxplicnblo. 'Ming their statement of the facts of the case as correct, wo passed some strictures upon what appeared a remarkable method of charge, The attention of the officials being drawn to this, nnonquiry into the charges was made, oliciting the following explanation :-"Tho Messrs Crosby Bros, practically stated that oOcwt. of goods (now returned as contractors plant), from Hamilton to Mangawhava, cost £ll3s !)d, and the same weight of goods (supplies), Auckland to Mangawhara, only cost 18s 2d. Tho enquiry discloses that the goods from Auckland weighed 33c\vt., costing £2 His 2d, and included amongst them was ono ton of (lour, separately set down as lb's 2d, but included in the total of £2los 2d. It would appear from this that the Crosbys' have mixed up tho two amounts of IS-s 2d and £2 lfts 2d, Anyone making charges of this kind should be careful as to facts, it is unfair to the officials, causing them a lot of trouble and annoyance, and places the journal representing the case, in a very false position." ■
