ROTORUA.
The Police.—lt is curious to note how "cause and effect" arising from the one source act the same on different communities. Whilst the people of Hamilton are in crief over the contemplated departure of Constable Murray, the god folks of Rotorua are in a similar plight over Constable Cahill. Could anything bo more complimentary to those worthy public servants than what is being done ti retain thom in their present positions, for while the Hainiltonians urasending a petition to the Defenco Minister, the Rotoruaians are also moving in a similar direction, besides preparing to give Constable Cahill a presentation as a token of esteem should 110 have to " move on." It must bo very soothing to all concerned in this affair, first to the constables themselves to witness such an exhibition of sympathy on their behalf, and to the public generally at knowing " how happy they had been together."
