HAMILTON CRICKET CLUB.
TO THE KDITOR. Sir, —Will you kind!}' give spioc fur the few following remarks, in yom valuable paper and oblige yours as under:—ln a late issue, I notice that there had been a meeting held, with the object of reforming the Cricket Club in Hamilton, and at this meeting (though it was the fir-it one, and early in the season), there were officers elected, which perhaps was, the correct thing to do, though I as an old cricketer do not. think so, and I will .state why. First, because the meeting was convened at .such a time that man)- of the older members could not attend, and secondly because many who would have been at the meeting knew nothing whatever about it. Where there is a question of appointing officers for a Cricket Club or any other club, it ousrht to be done when there is a full and general meeting of as many members as can be got together, so that the best men may bo chosen. Now Sir, I have not much to say about the selection of the otbeers, with tho exception of one, and that is the captain, for whom I have the greatest respect, and I think so have all who have como in contact with him, as a man in his place, but as c.iptaiu of a Cricket Club I think with many others Mr W. von Sturmer is very much out of place, and it is a great marvel to me after all I heard last year, and in fact what I have heard since the mooting that he allowed himself to be re-elec'ed for this season, for Willie knows that he cannot captain a team, and I think it would have been more to his credit had he excused himself and let one of the older hands be appointed, but it is not too late for him to make a proposition to that effect at the next meeting. That is if he has the interest of cricket at heart as I think he has. In fact I think it is a great mistake appointing captains at all until play is about to commence, and then pick your captain out of the men on the field, and had I been at the meeting I should have proposed it, and I think it ■would have been :arried. Hoping I have not encroached too much on vour space, and that our Willie will not get his back up but road this k-tteras it is'meanl — for the advancement of cricket. —1 remain an old lover of the game. Bat asp Bam.
