TE AWAMUTU.
Election".—Last Thursday was the nomination day for the usual bienma l election of candidates for the Town Boa:d. and passed off very quietly. There had been some talk during the past lew weeks of makiug a change in the personnel of the Board, and several new names were mentioned as likely candidates. Many seemed to think that a little new blood would be an improvement, and a cert tin section were very anxious to have a rate struck. At the present time the sole source of revenue of the Board is the licensing fees pairl by the two hotels and it seems to be sufficient for our needs without striking any rate. The old Board were nominated, with the exception of -Mr J. B. Teasd.de, who is retiring from municipal matters. Mr F. Gibson being nominated m his place. As these were the only candid ites nominated, Mr H. T. Sibley, the Returning Officer, declared them duly elected. The names of the new Board are : Mr (J. M. Ahier, nominated bv Messrs Tea-uiale and Walton ; Mr Win. North, nominated by Messrs Ahier and W.ilt iu ; Mr James Walton, nominated by Messrs Tea<dale and Lyons ; Mr Rogers, nominated by Messrs Ahier and Walton ; and Mr F. U Gibson, nominated by Messrs Matthews and Bearslev.
Hall Committee.—A meeting of V « Volunteer and Public Hall Committee was held on Wednesday n'ght, Mr G. M. Ahier in the chair. Sergeants Sibley and Carley and Private Lynch were elected to fill the places of Lieutenants Grexham and Storey and Sergeant Graham, who have reigned their positions in the troop. The Chairman explained the financial position of the hall, showing how they had £2S in hand clear. It) was decided to put an extension on to the front of the hall, making it nine feet longer, and also to include two cloak rooms and a ticket office. The improvements have been urgently wanted for some tini", and will be a great convenience as well as improve the appearance of the hall.
