On returning the boat got broadside on the breakers at the bar, and the lads not being strong enough to im'il off against tide the boat was carried into the breakers and swamped. They were half-an hour in the water before assistance reached them.
A youth, named James Thompson, seeing the accident pulled out in a Hat bottomed hoat and rescued Coombes and Ralph Warren. The launch, Snark, returning from the Talune, also observing the boys struggling in the water hastened uvi r, and throwing a life bell, to Hall, re-cued him in an exhausted state. Walter Warren! wa< picked up clinging to the boat. Cecil, aged 8, and Alleti 10, were drowned. When tiie four boys were taken on board the Smirk, oil which was the Italian Opera Co., the ladies of the Company did all in their power to assist in resuscitating little Ralph who was only four years old. He was very exhausted and did not recover for some hours. , . The body of Cecil WHS recovered on the beach on Sunday, but the other body has not yet been found.
