QUARANTINING OF STOCK.
RkpbESKNTATIONS have been made to the member for Waikato, Ed. Lake, Esq., in reference to the inconvenience and additional charges that would have to be incurred by anyone desirous of imparting stock from England. In consequence of their being no quarantine station nearer than Wellington he has interviewed the Head of the Stock Department at Wellington, and for the information of farmers and others desirous of importing stock into the Auckland district, we publish the enclosed letter bearing upon tho subject:—" Head Office Live Stock Department, Wellington, New Zealand, 22nd August, 1892. Sir,— Referring to our conversation re the quarantining of stock at Auckland, I have seen Mr McKenzie, and he authorises me to inform you that the Government will pay cost of transit of all stock ariving here for the provincial district of Auckland. Tho stock will, on expiry of quarantine, be put on board the steamer at the Wellington wharf, and freight paid from there to Auckland. The question of abolishing the quarantine station at Motuitu Island is still under consideration. —1 have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servant, John D. Ritchik, Chief Inspector, E.
