THE CHOLERA

(UY KI.KCTRIC TKI.KOBAPH.— COPVUIGHT). London', September 1. The Fetter Lane case is not cholera. Three refugees from Hamburg, who took up a residence in City Road, were all attacked by cholera, and one is since dead. It is feared that the cholera n.ay spread in London owing to tbe water supply. On an immigrant vessel bound to New York 20 deaths occurred. In Havre the disease continues unabated. and railway traffic has been suspended. Later. Cholera lias appeared at Altwark, Stuttgart. Spind.'iu and Louthon in Germany, and Mechlin and Bruges in Belgium. No well-proved case of cholera of the Asiatic type has been discovered in the United Kingdon, but it is feared it may be imported from Hamburg. Hamburg, August 31. The hospitals of Hamburg are horribly' overcrowded, and in an insanitary condition. There is no room for proper attendance, and patients' clothes cannot be removed. The bedding is insufficient, and in a filthy condition. In one room two hundred corpses were lying, mingled with living. Schools are being converted into hospitals. September 1. Two hundred and twenty-five deaths were reported on Wednesday, iucluding several Hospital doctors and nurses, and many persons of the upper and middle classes. The Board of Health has appealed for 120 additional doctors. The injection of transfused oil and cookinff salt has been found very successful in dealing with the pesl. The shrieks and grcans from the patients crowded in the stifling hospitals are frightful. Berlin, August 31. The hospitals in Hamburg continue in a frightful condition. Patients unknown are brought in and die, and their deaths are not recorded. The available medical assistance is inadequate to cope with the alarming increase of cases. Two hundred bodies are lying in one hospital awaiting burial, and an additional four hundred are lying in a drillsbed. The Government have voted half-a-million marks to assist in coping with the disease. September 1. The Euiperor has abandoned his elk hunting expedition in Norway.. Great public donations are being received in Hamburg in aid of the sufferers from cholera. St. Petersburg, September 1. Fifty-one deaths were recorded in this city on Wednesday. It is reported that two tourists from Hamburg have died at Islington. Amsterdam, August 31. A fatal case of cholera is reported from Groningen, the capital of one of the north-eastern provinces. Teiieran, August 31. The cliolcra epidemic is decreasing in the city, and the death rate has fallen to two hundrsd daily.
