HAMILTON EAST V. AVE ST COLTS. The return football match between the Hamilton East and West Colts took place nn Svdney Square; Hamilton East, on Saturday last, and resulted in an easy victory for the East by 18 points to nil. There wis considerable delay in starting the match, owing to a number of the West team not nutting in an appearance, and several men bad to be taken off the ground to make up the team. Eventually, at about a quarter to 4 o'clock, play began, Messrs H. MeKenzic and T. G-. Sarnleß acting as umpire-* for the East and West, respectively. During the game some of the players tried to domineer over the umpires, and had a great deal too much to say generally ; therefore, things did riot go on as smoothly as they might have done. The game wasplayed in two spells, of 45 minutes each, and was very fast, the East side having the beft of the game from start to finish. At the end of the first spell, the East side was leading by nine points (one goal and two tries), the tries being obtained by JF. Hunt. Innes, and Black in that ordar, and Steadman converted the latter try into -a neat goal. In the second spell, the West side tried bard to score, and no doubt they would have done had it not been for several of the men playing so rashly. The East side, however, played with more precision ihm their opoonenits, and a?ain scored th: o>; different times during the latter spell. The Mi's were obt lined by J. O'Neill, Nickisson »nd Steadman, and Kelly converted one of them into a splendid goal, which brought the score up to the nice total ot IS points, to nil. For the West side. Dalst io, Harris and Elliott did good work, while ONeill, Clements, Black, and E. Hunt were the most conspicious on the East sid>', although, with few exceptions, all the East -4de played well. Each side have now sc 'red a win. and the final match wdl be played shortly, when the West side intend, if possible, to put a better team in the field. When the coming match is played, the spells should be half an hour instead of forty-five minutes, as it was plainly seen on Saturday that the spells were too long for the bulk of the players, who were not in very good form.
