The Waikato Timti Office Friday. WAIKATO MARKETS. Mr W J. Hunter Reports :-At Ohaupo on Tuesday, October 14th. there was a large muster of good cattle all being well-bred and choice, also o very large one of sheep all of which sold. For steers of any age there is brisk demand especially for K rown ones, and holders of this class should forward at once. Well-bred heifers from Uto 3-year-old sold well also. Dairy cows: Although about 50 were yarded all found buyers at satisfactory prices. Beef cattle were short of lequirements, and being all prime sold, with the exception of two head, at very satisfactory prices to owners; yearling steers sold from 2Gs to 31s 6d; 1J and 2-year-old. £1 16s to £2 ss; 2J to 34 ditto, £212 ato £318 a; 1* and 2-year-old Iwifers, £13s to £115s; fresh cows, £2 to £2 2s 6d; fel cows and heifers, £3 to £4 2s; dairy cows, £2 10b to £4; 193 large hoggets, 12s 10d; 116 small ditto, 10s 6d; 64 ewes, 12s; fat shorn ewes, 8e; store pigs,7s <.d. At Hamilton on Thursday, October 16th, the yards were well filled with both cattle aud sheep. There were a large number of buyers from all parts of Waikato, and nearly every beast sold, good fresh empty heifers and cows especially selling well. A large number of horses were brought forward, for which there was keen competition, a good demand existing for working honiee and out of 32 entered 25 sold at very satisfactory prices. Pi«» were yarded in usual numbers; all sold. AUCKLAND MARKETS. MKSSHS A.BUCKLAND AND SONS* WEEKLY Rkfobt.— At the haymarket during the past week, meadow hay and oaten sheaves have ranged iu price with quality, from 2s 3dto3u 3d the cwt; chaff, £3 10s; potatoes £2 to £2 10s the ton ; maize 3a 3d; oats, 2e Id and 2s 2d; barley, 2s Gd the bushel. Woolpacks are in brisk demand. At Friday's horse sale there was au excellent demand, and the sale was in every way successful. Prices showed an advance on late values. Unbroken medium draught ranged from £8 to £17; active draught, broken to harness. £9 to £20; riding horse*, £4 to £10, and scarcely a horse was passed. A waggonette brought £36 10s. At the hide sale en Thursday, there was a better enquiry, and higher prices obtained. Medium to heavy ox brought from 3Jjd to 5Jd ; cow and light nx, ljd to 2Jd; calfskins, 3d to 4Jd the lb. Tallow, 13s to 17e the cwt; butchers' skins, 4s to Gs 4d; lambskins, 0d to Is 3d each ; wool, in bags, OJd the lb. At the country cattle sales, heid respectively at Pokeno and Drury, a larger supply of stock than customary has been sold. Dairy cow* are at low values, but steers of all classes advanc3d in price from 5s to 10s each. At Romuera on Thursday, good dairy cows were fairly competed for, and brought from £4 to £G each, but secondary cattle were from 30s to 50s. Store cattle in moderate numbers, were required at full values. Fat cattle, in average number, were lower in price than last week, but highest at conclusion of the sale. G.iod quality steers were steady at 18s the 1001b. Calves dull of sale. Store sheep in demand at full rates. Fat sheep lower, from Is to 2s each. Wethers in their wool, from 15s to 19s. Lambs, numerous, were better worth, and ranged from 8s to 14a each. Pigs, in short supply, scarcely kept last week's values. Mjcssrs Huntbh and Nolan's Weekly Rhport.— Grain, Heeds, horsefeed, <&c.: There has been very little doing. Stocks are ample, but there is an indisposition to buy, except for immediate wants, or doubtless holdeis would concede for anything of » line. Wo quote feed oats 2s per bushel; maize, 3i to 3s 3d ; barley, 2s 0d to 3* 2d : bran, £3 10s to £4 per ton ; chaff, £2 to £2 15s. Horses : A steady demand has existed for medium draught and light harness horses, and prices hive been sustained. No good hacks were brought forward. Barely an average number were entered for disposal by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday. Lots were cleared, and there remained an unsatisfied demand for medium draught and light harnosn hor.sos of good ■tamp. There was no noteworthy alteration in the value of those disposed of, as compared with the previous week. Wool, hidoc, skins, tallow, &c. : With thei exception of stout ox hides, qHite average quantities were pitched at the Durham Yards on Tuesday, and met ready sale. Cattle : The market hae been active for stores and fat beasts, but dairy stock wax dull. Them hat) been little or no alteration in value. There was an average muster of fat beasts at Newmarket on Tuesday. Dairies were in excess of requirement*, and but few itores were yarded. At Pnkekohe, owing to the day being altered for this month, icarcely so many head as usual were yarded. There was, however, n steady demand, and the result of the sale was satisfactory. We quote : Cows, from 15s to 20s each ; yearling steera, fcl to £110s; 2-year-old, £110s til £2 to £2 5s ; 3-year-old, £215s to £3 ss: grown steers, forward in condition, £310* to £4 ss. The local food market certainly is not over-stocked with firstclass butter, and really first-class dairies get as high as 7d and 8d per lb. Second and third class butter is very plentiful and is quoted at 4d and 5d per lb. Eggs meet with ready sale at 7d wholesale and 0d retail. New cheese is coming to hand pretty freely, the wholesale price being 4d to -ijd per lb.
