On the third reading being put on Saturday night Mr (ioldie called for a division, but it was carried by 40 to 14. The opponents of the Bill were subsequently denounced for what was ca.'led their shain opposition by Mr Fish, when they knew that the revenue must be raised, and that if the Bill had been thrown out the result would have been disastrous to the colony. This led to a lung debate on the motion that this Bill do pass. Ultimately the motion was carried by 43 to 21. .JAMBS MCDONALD'S CASK. The petition of James Mac Donald has occupied the attention of the House more than once this session, the petitioner being desirous of Retting an enquiry into the manner in which his bankrupt estate has been administered by the Official Assignee, at Duuudin. A resolution in favour of holding the enquiry was carried by 3li to 24. .JiriXiK EDWARDS' SALARY, A lengthy discussion again took place this afternoon, on Judge Edwards' salary, and several members raised a strong protest against the item, appearing on the Supplementary Estimates. Capt. Russell finally agreed to ask for the salary for that gentleman, as Commissioner Edwards only, and not as judge. The Supplementary Estimates are not likely to be disposed of till a late hour to-night. THE PROROGATION. It is expected that all the business will In? finished by to-morrow, or Wednesday at the latfst. The prorogation will, I understand, bo made by proclamation on WednesY.
