Auckland, Last Night. _ Mk M.i \N WiiJHT, of Pneroa, economic entomologist, ha* issued a circular warning fi-uit-TDWcrs against a beetle destructive to np-jle crops, and which was imported into New South Wales from California. Ihe larva of this insect attacks the apple m a manner so similar to the codlin moth that thn different appearance in tho fruit is not irisily perceived. He urges fruit-growers to keep a sharp lock-out for this pest. There was- pond competition at the Grown Lauds sale to-day. Tuakau flax samp sections brought good advances on the upset Board of Education meeting today a now scale of teachers' salaries was miiimitted. The scale is graduated according to the class of certificates and service. The report of the committee appointed to consider the question of teaching elementary science in schools was read. The committee mentioned that after consultation with Professor Brown and the Inspectors, a syllabus had been agreed upon.
