WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tmh usual iruntlily meeting of the above Council was held in the Council Chambers, Hamilton Kast, tit 2.30 p.m. yesterday. There were present : Crs. Primrose (chairman), Uat'UKli, Kitllcndar, Coatoa, Forrest and Stddon. Ratks.—The Registrar of the Supreme Court forwarded £3 8b Id recovered by him in tlie cases Waikato Comity v. Shanley, and also reported that in the case Same v. H. Smith he was unable to do anything, as Smith was a bankrupt when summoned. He had no interest in the land, and the proper person to have been summoned was tho Official Assignee. Fascinks. —Mr Thompson wrote asking the Council to reconsider their decision as to not paying him anything for the fascining on the Churchill Road, which had not been completed according to specifications, as lie had done the work with the best material obtainable in the district.— Cr. Forrest moved that he be paid .">s per hundred for the fascines. Cr. Coates seconded the motion and said that no doubt that some good had been done to the roads and he considered that the man should get some remuneration. The Chairman said he intended to vote against the resolution, as the contractor took the contract under the specifications which stated the fascines to be used, and without authority from the engineer he set aside the specifications and used the fascines, perhaps tho best he could get. He thought it was setting up a very bad precedent if they should pay for work done not in accordance with specifications. The Engineer said that in drawing up the specifications lie knew that the fascincs would have to bo carted. The motion was put and carried, Cr. Seddoti and the chairman dissenting. Funds.—The Clerk said that the county account was £4!) 13s Id in debt, while the riding accounts wero as follows: —In credit: Rangtrin, £270 14s; Kirikiriroa, £77 12s Id ; Tamahere, £7 13s 7d ; Cambridge, £22 ( Js lOd. In debit: Cambridge Borough : i7S 18s 5d ; Raplan County, £(> 12s 3d; model farm account, £107 os ltd. Stoats and Wkaskls.— A letter was received from the Miuister of Lands stating that at present there is no intention of introducing these pests into the Auckland district. Kuimkus ' Cms.--A circular was read from the (Jainaru Farmers' Club, suggesting that similar clubs be oreanised throughout the colony, which would unite, forming a uuion for the whole colony.—Tho letter was referred to the Waikato Farmers' Club. Matahuha Road.—The following petition, signed by -10 ratepayers, was presented by Mr Hill: —To the members of the Waikato County Council. —Gentlemen, —We the undersigned ratepayers of the Raugiriri Riding, beg to present this petition to you concerning the road which you are about to take through Mr Hill's property. In the first place we strongly object to so much money being spent on a road which, when made, is only for the convenience of u few settlers, when the road before surveyed will eventually be the one loading to Moerangi (a district which before long will all be bought up, as the land is really good.) This will be the road leading to Messrs Hall and Dilhvorth's Estate, and also the road to Piako. Another point iu this road is that you get it for nothing, while the one you are about to take will put you to considerable expense, as the bridge alone will be double what it would be on the first. A landing has been offered free by Messrs Hill where the road from Huntly and Moerangi meet. We therefore request that you will reconsider your decision, and take the road where first proposed.—Cr. .lohuson said that most of these people were liviug out of tho district, while the one ill favour of the road as proposed to be taken now was Higned by settlers, all living in tho neighbourhood who wero well acquainted with the facts.—The Council considering there was n» new matter brought up they saw no reason to alter their decision of last meeting, and the petition was received.
