TE AROHA.

Domain Board.—Tho regular monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Hot Springs Domain Board was held on S at.urday last. Present ; Messrs Tims, Gavin (chairman), Ahier and Lipscy. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from W. Kelly, Esq., M. H.R. for the district, stating that the present Government would render no pre-cuni-iry aid to the Hoard in further developing the springs, and that all improvements would have to be made from the revenue derived from the use of the baths. After some conversation of a desultory nature, the meeting was adjourned until the following week, to consider what economies could be effected in the management of the Domain. Waiobongomai I'atteuv. —A rumour was current during the last few days that the Te Aroha Gold and Silver Mining Company, Waiomngomai, were offering for sale through their secretary in Auckland their plant either as a whole or in portions. There is every reason to believe that the rumour is without foundation, seeing that Mr Napier, the company's manager in charge of the works, has received no instructions to that effect but rather to the contrary, that every care should be taken to pay all rents on leases when falling duo and otherwise guard against the company forfeiting any of the rights they have acquired at Waiorongomai. Resides, Messrs Jennings and Newsham, who have latelyleased from the company a portion of the stamps aro incurring considerable expense in putting everything in working order so as to bo able to treat ore for the general public. Those best conversant with the matters at Waiorongomai are satisfied that there is no intention to forfeit any ground, but that the company will be re-formed at the expiration of the present term of pro tection. The New Elia.—Ferguson's Syndicate are now treating large quantities of quart/, and the tramway will again be in full employment for sumo time to come, consequently a more cheerful view of things in general is being taken. Police Chant,ks.— During the past week several removals from amongst us have taken place. Sergeant Emerson and Constable Howell have been transferred to Auckland. Constable Siieehan has arrived, and is now in charge of the district. CIIAXQK IN PllOI'UIEl'ARr.—Mr -f. Tlott, late of tho Te Aroha News, has left for Wellington, to join the staff of the New Zealand Times. Mr J. S. Ingram, late of the Thames, has taken possession of the To Aroha News, and his courteous disposition is already apparent in the columns of the paper. This new era m the history of the News has given unqualified satisfaction to the great majority :>f the settlers in this district, who were long ngn disgusted with the carping querulous tone of the paper in tlie past. An improvement in mining affairs and a consequent revival of business is all that is needed to make Te Aroha prosperous and happy. New Bl'll.niNCS.—Tenders were accepted last week from an Auckland builder for the erection of a seven-roomed house, on the 1 [olden estate, Te Aroha West. Much regret was expressed that the local builders had not been able to secure the contract. Rivuu Thal'lTC.— The Northern Steamship Company have purchased the boats and trade of .the Thames River Steamboat Company, and commence operations from the Ist of August. Passengers and cargo will now be carried at satisfactory rates.
