Poetry.
A MEETING. A star in the quiet sky ; A gleam on the water's breast Whore the silver ripples die In perfect rest. A fragrance of roses ahed Abroad on the windless air, Where the level cloud-lies sped Silent and fair. A boat that with rhythmic oars l'nrts the reluctant deep; The sound of a voice that soars Whore the clouds sleep. A figure upon the shore, Where the old pier stretches far, And the liEfhthon.se shineth o'er The harbour-bar. No sound but the voice that sings As the triad oars swifter move, And the dark tide nearer brings Two hearts that love. One has journeyed fast and far, One has waited long to greet. Come hence ! Only you pale star Shall watch them meet! TO A BABY BOY. Sweet one, thy picture lieth near, But in my heart A fairer, sweeter picture hangs, Untouched by art. And so, sweet one, My prayer shall be, God's angels watch theo and his wing O'ershadow thee. While in my heart a picture hangs, In frame of gold— A little lambkin sheltered warm In memory's fold I —Clarence Urmy. NAKED BOUGHS. There were troths in the hedges And bird-mates were true; There were trysts, there were pledges, And old loves, and new; There was sun at the tree's heart, And son;; in the boughs, And spring in the bee's heart, And whispers and vows ; There were leaves, when we mated, And now—naked boughs. Ah, vows that were fated ! Ah, loves that would house! Your time was belated, Your fate—naked bosghs ! —The Centnryu
