MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
(by telegraph.— own correspondent.) Auckland, Last Night. Samuel Uhkckly, a mining engineer, mysteriously disappeared at the Bay of Islands under circumstances leading to the belief that he has been eaten up by wild pigs, or swallowed with his horse in quick sands. LATER. RcssKLL, Last Night. It is now surmised that as Checklywas seen by Mr Farrer at Whangi on Sunday, at noun, and a horse like Checkly's was seen by natives near the upper crossing of the Waitangi on Monday morning, that he has laid down in the scrub somewhere about Whangei, or thick scrub of Oromande, and that wild ,pigs probably finished him off. Checkly was well known here, and years ago was manager of the colliery here.
