The Want of Confidence debate is progressing. The Premier defended the Budget in a speech of great length, and severely handled Mr J. Munro for saying that the Budget was a fraud and a sham. Sydney, May 27. As a deuial to the charges that he is afraid to meet O'Connor, Kemp oilers to row the Canadian for the sculliug championship without any stake. O'Connor declines this, but he has intimated his willingness to row for the coveted honour and £200 a-side. The Sydney Presbytery has called on Rev. Mr Gardiner to return forthwith and answer charges against him. Mr Gardiner wrote from Auckland resigning his position in the ministry. May 28. A coal train oa a private line, at Singleton, 147 miles north-west of Sydney, ran away through the breaking of the couplings. A quantity of rolling stock was smashed, and the guard had a narrow escape. Adelaide, May 28. The tenders for the half-million treasury bills have been opened. Three hundred and twenty-four thousand pounds was offered, varying from par to thirty shilling premiums, and including £200,000 at par.
