Parkes, who is on a visit to this city, has planted an oak tree in the Parliamentary gardens to 'commemorate the sitting of the Federation Conference. The coremony had been postponed from the date of the conference opening owing to the illness of Sir H. Parkes. The tree is to be known as the federal oak.
