WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the abovi Board was held at The Waikato Tim® Buildings, Hamilton, at noon yesterday There were present: Messrs Priuirosi (chairman), Ohepmell, Clements, Lang Tensriale, MacPherson and Davey. The minutes of the last meeting weri read and confirmed and the outward corres pondence adopted. Hospital Enijowmknts.—ln reply to i letter from the Board requesting'that Lo 69, Hamilton West, and other hospital ro serves in the district, the secretary to thi Crown Lands Department ptated that Lo 69 was required for the Police Department whose building had been on it for som years. With reference to the latter part i would be laid before the Minister on his re turn to Wellington.—The secretary was in structed to draw up a statement of th history of Lot 91 and forward copies of i to the Hon. John Bryce and Mr J. B Whyte requesting them to get justice fo the Board.

Sefton.—The secretary to the Aucklani Hospital wrote stating that- they would no be responsible for any expenses incurrei on behalf of R. Sefton in the Waikat Hospital as the Auckland Hospital wu ready and open for his admission. Babe.—Rev. Mr Evans, of Te Aroha applied on behalf of John I)are, who fron old age and rheumatism wa3 unable to sup port himself, for his admission into the Oil People's Refuge, or granting some relief a Te Aroha. Sergt. Emerson, of Te Aroha reported that Dare was unable to suppor himself, and that he was a fit subject fo: admission to the Refuge.—lt was resolvec to admit Dare to the Refuge. Allen's Children.—Mr G. P. Pierce Secretary to the St. Stephen's Orphai Home, JParnell, wrote, offering to admit Mrs Allen's children into the home if tlx Board would allow them the amount of the rations being granted to the children. A report was received from the police wit! reference to this case, stating that there art three children, the eldest seven and the youngest four. After the death of hei husband, Mrs Allen had supported herseli by taking in boarders first at Hamilton and afterwards at the Thames, but was unable to make sufficient at it to live, and si net August last she had been living with hei parents in Hamilton. She has about & ol an acre of land at Hamilton East with e two-roomed house on it, but which is mort Raged for £50, about its full value. A long discussion on this case was held in conv mittee, and on the motion of Mr Sandes, seconded by Mr Davey, it was resolveei that the resolution of the Board passed al its last meeting be adhered to. Water Supply Again.—With reference to the water supply, Messrs Stewart and Hunter wrote recommending that the besf

way to apply power to supply water to. the Hospital would be by one of Bailey's hot air engines, of one half horse power, which at the factory in Manchester, would cost £42. This engine would be of little expense in coaling and would not require a skilled engineer to attend to it, and was also less liable to accidents than ordinary steam engines. Considerable discussion was elicited on this question, several plans being suggested, but ultimately it was decided to get four additional tanks at the hospital, so fixed as to utilise either water from the roof or pump. A motion by Mr T. G. Sandes, with reference to obtaining an engine, as recommended by Messrs Stewart and Hunter, lapsed for want of a seconder. Slatrr.—Mrs J. Slater, of Hamilton, applied for relief to the extant of her rent, 3s per week. She had two daughters at service, who were earning lG.i per week, and who had contributed largely towards the support of their father in his late f ital illness, dp|iriving themselves of many necessaries.—The letter was received. Hammond.—An application was received from Mrs T. C. Hammond, whose husband

is at present in the hospital, fur relief, which was supported by a recommendation by the police, and it waa decided to grant two rations per day,until Hammond was discharged from the hospital. Allocations. — The following formal resolutions were then passed.— Mr Chepmell moved :— " That for the purpose of apportioning the proportion of the contribution to be made by each local authority within the Waikato Hospital District on an uniform or equivalent scale in accordance with the provisions of section 2G of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act 1885, Amendment Act 188G, and of section 23 of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act 1885, the ratable value of tha ratable property in the district represented by each and every local authority within the said Hospital district, whose valuation roll has been made in accordance with the provisions of the Rating Act 1882 shall bo the annual value »s provided by the Rating Act 1882 section L I ; that is to say it shall be the sum, which is equal to six pounds per centum on the ratable value of such local authority." Seconded by Captain McPherson and parried.—Mr Chepmell then moved :— 11 That the amount of expenditure required for the maintenance of institutions and for ;he distribution of charitable aid for the Waikato Hospital district having been as;ertained to be £2030. The district of Waikato Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board, ifter having made all deductions required jy section 21, of the Hopitals and Cliaritible Institutions Act 1885 (such deductions imounting to £580) do now find that the remainder to be allocated for contribution _>y the local authorities in the Waikato

Hospital district amounts to £1015 and the said Board now declares that the several local authorities within the Waikato Hospital district whose names are set forth in the following schedule shall be liable to contribute to the support of the institutions therein and to afford charitable aid therein, aud that the proportion of the contribution to be made by each such local authority shall be the amount set opposite to the name of each local authority respectively in the said schedule, the amount to be con-

tributed by each such local authority being in the same ratio to the whole amount of the contributions of all the local authorities within the said district taken together, as the ratable value of the ratable property in the district represented by such local authority is to the whole amount of the ratable value of all the ratable property in the several districts represented by each and every local authority within the said Hospital district,. and further that the said Board do now appoint and require that payment of the said amounts shall be made 011 the 14th day of April, ISDO, tu the secretary at the office of the Board, Hamilton. The proportion due by the contributing local bodies is as follows Piako, £333 14s 3d ; Waikato, £28119s 4d ; Waipa, 9223 17s Id ; Raglan, £76 4s lOd ; Hamilton, £50 16s 8d ; Cambridge, £39 3s Gd. — Seconded by Mr Lang and carried. Tenders.—The House Committee reported that the following tenders had been received and dealt with Household supplies and rations for the destitute: Knox and Ridler accepted. Milk :J. Medland, one delivery, Is per gallon ; two deliveries, Is 3d per gallon (accepted). Coal: J. Parr, 18s lOd per ton ; Knox and Ridler, 18s (id j

aocepted). Funerals: D. Elliott (plain), 82 7a fid ; (furnished), £3 5s (accepted). Meat ana fowls: T. Qualtrough, 2sd per lb md Is each; J. Bettley, 2Jd per lb and Is 3d ;ach (accepted). Drugs : Messrs Sandes & Do. and Messrs Sbarland & Co. These renders were referred to the Doctor, and on lis recommendation that of Messrs Sandes fe Co. was accepted. Accounts. —The Finance Committee was authorised to pay the accounts at the end of <he mouth, as interim accounts. Muhliss.—The Chairman reported that IV. Murliss (late librarian at Hamil;on) had applied to him for admisiion to the refuge, and had offered io give £10 on his admission. He

had freehold property, which he refused to hand over to the Board, and the Chairman stated that he had told him he could not be admitted as long as he had this property. —Mr Chepmell moved that, as it had come to the knowledge of the Board that W. Murliss was the owner of freehold property, his relief of 3s per week be discontinued.— Seconded by Mr Sandes and carried. Quorum.— In accordance with notice given, Mr Chepmell moved that the resolution of 4th December, 1889, fixing the number of members necessary to form a quorum of the Board, be rescinded, and that in future five members shall be sufficient to form a quorum, —Seconded by Mr Sandes, and carried, Rkliei I .—The usual relief, with the exception of W. Murliss, and the addition of Mrs Hammond, was granted for the ensuing month. This was all the business.
