Cricket.— A return match between the Te Aroha and Paeroa Cricket Clubs was played in Mr Lipsey'a paddock, on Saturday last, which resulted in an easy victory for the local men. The attendance of the public during the day was good, and the visitors,; although defeated, left Te Aroha well pleased with their visit after enjoying tho luxury of a dip in No. G bath. Main Roai?.— On Saturday evening it became known that the Piako Council had that day, at their meeting unanimously resolved on the motion of Councillors Mills and Murphy to relieve the Te Aroha Town District Board of the maintenance of the main roads within the town district. That the maintenance of a gold fields traffic Without sharing in a gold fields revenue was iniquitous has always been apparent to those who administer the small revenue accuring to a Town Board, and much indignation has always been felt against those " senseless muddlers," who without, rhyme, or reason induced the Council to saddle the inhabitants with the maintenance ot main roads. The thanks of the IV Aroha people are now due to the Piako County Council: and to our worthy members for their persistent efforts in relieving the Town Board of what had really become an incubus and enabling'the funds to be devoted to'their legitimate object, the repair and maintenance of foothpaths and side-streets.
