ALEXANDRA

The Kawhia Road.—The repairs to the Alexandra-Kawhia road, the money for which was promised sometime ago by the Hon. Mr Mitchelson, have not been commenced yet, and the Kawhia people are cut off from direct communication with the Waikato, their only market for their cattle, etc. The Kawhia residents paid high prices for their allotments on the understanding that the settlement would have, for a considerable time to come, the patronage of the Government. These expectations have not been fulfilled, but tho Hot Springs there are now well-known to be a most offioacious benefit to sufferers from rheumatic and other complaints, and a good many visitors have been benefitted by them. Unless the road is made, this source of profit to tho district will be lost to them, and a great disappointment to many intending visitors. It is to be hoped that some means will be taken to call the attention of the Government to the matter, so that the work can be carried out at once.
