Wellington, Monday. Mr J. C. l'owxELL, a well-known ciiuiinission agent, died on Saturday night, aged 70 years.

sleep George McComiiio, alias John MeGuiro. on a charge of forging the name (if James McMcnamer, sheep fanner, to a cheque for £() 10s, was to-day committed for trial. In the Supreme Court, to-day, the case Barries v. Drs. Uillon and Johnson was heard. The claim was for JMOO as damages for wroDKful trnatment of phiintid' hy defendants while in their charge in the Wellington Hospital in IS7O. After hearing the evidence Justice Richmond decided that there was no evidence to go to a jury, and plaintiff was non-suited. Tbo Will case Bnmghton v. Donnelly will not finish till the middle of the week. The pkmtilfs case will probably finish today, and the other side will then call rebutting evidence.
It has been decided to hold a four day's musical festival in the spring on the model of the English Provincial Festivals.
