An item of news appears in our telegraphic columns which may be taken as a presage of better times approaching. It is stated that the Victorian banks, acting in concert with those of the other colonies, including New Zealand, but not Queensland, will shortly i*educe the rate of interest on deposits by one per cent. This, if it proves anything, goes to show that there is an increase in the amount of capital seeking investment in the colonies, and the result must inevitably be that more money will find its way into agricultural and pastoral channels. It would appear that the predicted revival of prosperity in the colonies is near at hand, as, simultaneously with the news referred to, we have intelligence of a rise in the price of wool, while our English contemporaries speak most hopefully of the condition of trade in the United Kingdom.
