Coruespondknck <)i n\ \uim. — Letters were read: — To the Mimst-r of Public Work", calling attention to the Te Rore and Whatawhata bridge-*, which were falling into disrepair for want of attention in the matter of painting .md the t-creu iug-iip the iron works ; to the Minister of Public Works-, in leference to that pait of tho Whatawhata- Raglan road known as .lolly's road, which, although ga/etted a pnblic mam road, had ne\er been dedicated by Mr I Jolly, who threatened to clo-c it unless some arrangement were come to about it ; to the Colonial Trea-miur m respect of a by law that had b^en passed by the council to regulate the pace of horsemen and vehicles crossing bridges und^r the control of the council. To the Kihikihi Town Board, agreeing to pay £'3 towards making the footpath at the post office. Encin'kkk'.h Rkpoui 1 . — The Engineer, Mr Armstrong, read his usual monthly leport. In reference to one portion, of this it wan decided by the council to call for tenders for the maintenance for 12 months of the road at Fleming's gully, Walker's gully, Cowley's gully, and the road leading down to tho Cambridge bridge. After some disrussion, it was resolved on the motion of Cr. liidler, that tenders should be called for the maintenance for fixed terms of roads in tho various ridings. What \wh ata Bridge.— A* no reply had been received from the Government in answer to the communication calling attention to the promise that the bridge should be painted and screwed up, it was decided that the matter be brought forward at ne\t meeting. Claim against Manoapiko Road Bo vim koh £30.— The Clerk was instructed to apply for same. Crs. Tcasdale and Moncreiff at this stage took their seats. A letter was read from Mr Gifford, Rangiaohia, asking that the clay taken from the drain through his property should not be spread upon his land in terms of contract, as it would be injurious to the gra«s. — On the motion of Cr. Teasdale, seconded by Cr. Monciieff, it wai resolved that the matter be held over for a month. They would examine in the meantime and report at next council meeting. — Mr Farrell, the chairman of the Kihikihi Town Board, wrote enclosing a letter from Mrs Corboy, complaining of the damage to her property, caused by certain road works carried out by the council some time since, which caused an overflow of water into the back part of her premises. The engineer \v«%s instructed to look into the matter and suggest a remedy. The following letter from the Property Tax Commissioner was then read :— " Property Tax Department, " Wellington, 18th Feb., 1886. "The Clerk Wnipa County Council. " I have this day sent on to the Treasury a voucher for the payment to you of £519 11s 2d, being an advance of 75 per cent, on account of subsidy under 'The Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act, 1885,' as per statement attached. "J. Spkrrky, " Commissioner."

Note. — County Count lls do not participate in subsidies to Town Hoards. A letter from the chairman of the Pukekura Road Board, enclosing letters from Messrs Seddon and McLaren, complaining of the non-fulfilment of agreement on the pait of the council in not obtaining Crown grants for land exchanged for roads, resolved that the necessary fees be paid by the council to lift said deeds, and that the same be forwarded to the applicants with as little delay as possible. The General Survey Department wrote, notifying that a stun of £300, authorised for expenditure on the Hamilton-Whata-whata road, was at the disposal of the council. — The Clerk was instructed to apply for same, and to state that the work was well under weigh. The following accounts were then brought forwaid and pabsed for payment : — Beural«iy and Webber, £37 11a 3d ; James Coorabes, £3(5 19s 2d and £13 la-,; D. Crohuin, £3 3s ; H. Evan-, 12s ; Sibley, £2 2s ; Corcoran, £23 ; A. Dawson, £1 ; Diland Hickoy, £19 10s ; Norrish, £33 15s ; A. Armstrong, £19 7s 3d ; McCutcheon, £2 ; McCallum, £ll> 7s Od ; Hall and Moßirnie, £G; Hiu-nt and Co., pipes £3 3s (id; W. Alexander, £1 14s 2d ; Maunder, £i). An old account due to Messrs W. J. Hunter and Co. was passed for payment, biibject to Mr Lake, late chairman, certifying to corlectness of the same. TKNDEiia.-- -The following tenders were received :— No. 29, Mangapiko Bridge Contract : Ahier, £140 ; Maunder, £140 ; Malmberg, £235 10s ; Lord, £185 14a ; Gifford, £138 ; Meredith, £133 10s Gd ; McMinn, £128 10s (accepted). No. 30, Gravelling between Te Awamutu and Kihikihi : Conn, 7s 6d per chain ; McCallum, 17s ; Meredith, 23s (id; Hughes, £3 sd. Conn's tender was accepted on condition that the gravel proposed to be used be approved of by the engineer. No. 31. — Road works between Ohote creek and Bycroft's :— Tenders were received from Messrs Cooinbes, Clow and Booth, W. Jones, J. Clements, A. Wright and H. Skews. Mr W. Jones' tender at the following rates was accepted : — Clearing and forming, 2s 6d per chain ; drains, 2s 6d per chain ; fascining, 3s ; carting and laying pipes, 3d ; gravelling, 6s lid per chain.— No. 32. — Road works near Ngaruawahia racecourse :— Tenders were received from Messrs Clow and Booth, Grix and Matheson, J. Coombes, J. C. Brown, J. Clement*, and T. Caisidy. Mr J. C. Brown's tender at the following rates was accepted : — Clearing and forming, 4s per chain ; travelling from ditches, 3s per chain ; gravelling from pit, 7s 6d per chain ; drains, 4s ; fascines, 20s. — No. 33. — Gravelling road from Te A.wainutu to railway station contract :— Only one tender from Bearsley and Webber was received and accepted, at 3s 3d per yard for gravel, gravol to be taken from Taylors pit. The same tenderers offered to maintain the road for the ensuing nine months for the .sum of £24. This was considered too high, and was not therefore entertained. No. 34. — Gravelling between Kihikihi and Te Awamutn : — Messrs Bearsloy and Webber tendered at 4s Gd per cubic yard, and Ash by, junr., at 5s 3d per cubic yard, gravel to be taken from the Puniu at Kihikihi. Bearsley and Webber reported that they had found gravel on Mr Cuinpstone's land, and if this were passed by the engineer, they would reduce their price to 4s. Their tender was accepted.— lt was resolved on the motion of Cr. Fisher, seconded by the chairman, that the engineer be instructed to call for tender* for repairs to the road at Fleming's gully ; also for repairing and maintaining that portion of the Alex-andra-Ohaupo road from Webbs corner to Meyer's corner, and on past Goodfellow's, about five miles. Miscellaneous.— Cr. Smith drew attention to the dangerous approach to Camp bell's bridge at Te Rore, and reported that a settler near had offered to erect the necessary fencing, about ten panels, for a sum of £5. This was considered 100 high by the council, and the engineer received instructions to call for tenders for the work. — Cr. Moncrieff suggested that all the councilors should be supplied with copies of the Counties Actb. He thought the Government should be applied to to supply them free of cost. The Clerk informed the council that applications had been made to the authorities on several occasions to be supplied with these Acts, but without success. The clerk was ordered to write again and offer payment if they would not be supplied on other terms. — Cr. Teasdale drew the attention of the council to the claim of the Rangiaohia district for improvements to the road near ths church, and moved that the engineer be instructed to prepare plans with a view of calling for tenders, to be in by n«jct meeting of the council. This was seconded by Cr. Moncrieff and carried. — Cr. Fisher referred to Mr Hunter's grievance, that the council had not earned out their promise. — The Chairman replied that at their last sitting it was resolved to put the gravel where Mr Hunter required it, Mr Hunter, upon his own request, doing the other work himself. —The engineer was instructed to see that the gravel be placed where required by Mr Hunter. This was. all the business of importance.
