Old Men's Home Scandal. Auckland, Wednesday Night. Thk inmates of the Old Men's Refuge having made a series of allegations changing the master with habitual cruelty the manager replied declaring the whole statement a, tissue of falsehoods made through spitp. He is supported in his denial by the Rev. Mr Hamer. The board have ordered an inquiry.

Death From Insect Bite. A child named Cainbie, of Ponsonby has died from blood poisoning supposed to have been caused by an insect bite.

Mr Reess Land Scheme. A special general meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held to-day for the purpose of hearing Mr W. L Rees expound his plan of immigration and settlement. The attendance was very small, only eight members being present.

Bush Accident. John Anderson, Pukekohe, was engaged felling a tree when another tree alongside, badly burned, fell on him, severely bruising him about the body and head. Robbery From a Railway Station. The Helensville post office and railway station offices were mysteriously broken into last night by breaking a pane of glass and undoing the window fastening. Only 15s was abstracted. Constable Foreman is on the track of the burglar.
