There was a considerable amount of excitement in the city and the southern suburbs this afternoon, when it was rumoured that a hostile mob was marching in from Greenwich and Deptford. The rumour proved correct, but the majority of the shops were cloned, and hundreds of extra policemen were stationed at numerous points, wherever groups of roughs congregated. The ovents of the last tew days have given rise to a very general feeling of uneasiness among the residents in the metropolitan districts, and special precautions are being adopted by the authorities to order.
