EXTRAORDINARY CASE.

Ay extraordinary charge of stealing m diamond bracelet, of the value of £450, iuw been heard by the Brighton magistrates. The prosecutor, Mr E. M. Marco-te, of 47, Bernard-ntrcot, Ruhsoll square, London, entered a quantity of jewellery in an auction xale to be conducted by Mr Ridley, at his Mart, Brighton. On Deceuibor 3rd, when the goods were being checked, the bracelet wan missed. The police war* called in, and the assistant** cearched, tht prosecutor being present. On the following day a lady, named Herbert, aged 30, was teen at 52, Fnitfax road, London, by* detective, and when quebtioned produced the property, .stating that the prosecutor gave it to her. She willingly accompanied the detective to Brighton, and ww brought before the magistrate. When the prosecutor entered the witness box he .stated that hn gave the bracelet to the prisoner whilst she wan in the auction room on Wednesday afternoon. In reply to the magistrate, prosecutor said he did not tell Mr Ridley in the afternoon what he had done, as he was ashamed to do ao, and he admitted that when the search wm made he said he wanted it to be found. The magistrate laid tho prosecutor, by his evidence, had shown himself to bo the thief, and he did not sec why he should not be taken into custody. The prisoner was discharged, and the bracelet wm handed to the prisoner's solicitor.
