DUNEDIN, Thursday. The Acclimatisation Society to-day resolved to inform Sir J. Vogel that owing to the shortness of the'water supply, the society will not be able to take charge of any salmon ova which the Government arc introducing. Of the recent ship* ments the society have 4000 iv the pondi, making good progress. Since November, 1885, the society have distributed 191,000 trout. Bishop Barry will visit LakeiWakatipu to-morrow.
Friday. Ar the inquest on Wm. McLellan, killed on the Otago Central, evidence showed that the deceased slipped while levering * stone, and fell some 40ft. or .10ft, the .stone falling on him and killing him. The verdict wan accidental death. An old offender named Sydney Knight was fined £5, or one mouth, for wife beating, the reason alleged being that she would not lead an immoral life. He haa to find sureties for six mouths to keep the peace, and has little chance of doing so Mis Maiy Ann Cislon. attempted suicide by cutting lu-r throat. Her injuri'S are. but slight Sue !u<l been driuking heavily. It is said that the w oman had been left by her husband for aomc time with a young family, and thu preyed on her mind. MASTERTON, Friday. An eight-year-old sou of Herbert Cook, a railway platelayer, was killed by a log falling on him.
PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday. Miss Kelly was seriously injured yeaterday by being thrown from her horse, which took at a
flight passing vehicle CrIRI.yrCHURCH, Friday. William Collins, a farmer at Otaki, blew out his brains with a fowling-piece yesterday. He had bpen despondent.
