KIHIKIHI.
The mombent of the Waikato Horticultural •Society residing in and near To Awamutu and Kihikihi, met here on Saturday evening for the purpose of forming a " focal district," and appointing representative* in nccoi dance with the society's rules. Mr Farrell (in the chair), in opening the meeting, pointed out the importance and necessity of supporting and encouraging so laudable an institution. Their district, taken all round, was second to none in the province in the fertility of its soil and in the energy and perbeverance of its settlers, at evinced by the numerous and extensive orchards now maturing in their midst. — Major Jackxon said he was glad to find that the Codlin moth had not, so far as he could learn, found its way into the district. — Mr Moody, local nurseryman, exhibited a splendid assortment of Autumn apples grown by himself, which were very much admired.— Mr Ellis said he had stored a quantity of an excellent variety of keeping apple of the last season's growth, from the orchard lately in possession of Mr Parson*, and they were an good now as the day they were taken from the tree.— After some further general conversation, it was resolved, on the motion of Major Jackson, seconded- by Mr Ellis: "That To Rahu, Rangiaohia, Te Awamutu and Kihikihi form a local district, and that Messrs W. Johns, A, J. Bertram, J. Walton and F. Moody be members of chief committee to represent their respective localities 10 formed."
