S. ANDREW'S, CAMBRIDGE. Annual Meeting of Parishioners.

Tiie annual meeting of the parishioners of S. Andrew's, Cambridge, took place on Tuesday evening in the schoolroom. There was a fair attendance. The Venerable Archdeacon Willis was in the chair. The meeting opened with prayer. The report and balance-sheet (at published in Tuesday's issue), were read. The Chairman read a full statement of the Sunday-school receipts and expenditure, and also details of the expenditure for sundries, in preparing which he had received great assistance from Mr Hill. Mr Dyer moved a vote of thanks to the | Sunday-school teachers, whose work was greatly to be commended, and though unostentatious, it was second to none in importance. He deprecated the lukewarmneas of people ill not giving them better assistance. Mr Wells seconded the motion, and said he considered no branch of Church work required so much care. He particularly referred to Mr Stewart, who had sacrificed his leisure to devote himself to the Sunday-school. Archdeacon Willis spoke of the importance of Sunday-school work, which did not receive thnt primary place in the attention of the people which it should. Religious education of the young was being sadly neglected, and lie thought the moral outlook of the future generation a very serious one. The motion was carried by acclamation. j Mr Stewart returned thanks and expressed his gratification for the vote accorded him. In Mr Sanders he had a most valuable helper. He thought there should be a better average attendance, which was between GO and 80, instead of about 120, and he felt disappointed he did not receive the assistance he had expected. Mr Sanders moved a vote of thanks to the lay-readers, the choir, ringers, and to Mr Moore, for his late services in the choir. This was seconded by Mr Boyce and carried. The report and balaucc-sheets were then adopted as a whole. Mr P. Hicks moved that the incumbent's stipend be £2SO, as last year. He would like to propose an increase, but lie knew there was a difficulty under the present depression. Mr E. Hewitt seconded, and suggested that £10 a year be added if found possible to do so. The cutting off of Matamata from the district would be a loss. Motion as amended was carried.
