BOROUGH OF HAMILTON. ELECTION OF MAYOR.
Return of Mr Graham. The polling for the election of a mayor of Hamilton for the ensuing year tool? place at the Council Chambers yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr W. A. Graham, by a substantial majority. The friends of both candidates were busy during the day running in the free and independent electors, but theie was an absence of the excitement usually noticeable on such occasions, and the utmost good feeling prevailed. It was generally supposed that Mr Graham would get a majority, but the amount was variously estimated at from 10 to 30 votes. At about a quarter-past six, the Returning Officer, Mr J. M. Gelling, announced the result of the poll as follows : — Mr William Australia Graham ... 84 Mr Robert Peat 56 Majority for Mr Graham 28
