DEATH OF MR I. R. VIA LOU.
It is with much regret that we have to announce tfoe death of Mr I. R. Vialon, which occurrence took place suddenly at KotoriMj yesterday morning. The deceased gentleman, who was well known throughout Waikato, but particularly in Hamilton, where he resided for many years, was an old colonist. He arrived in Auckland ip the year 1858, and his first venture was in farming at the Wairoa. This, however, was so»n relinquished, and Mr Vialou then established himsdf in business as an architect in the city of Auckland. While so engaged lie superintended the erection of the Court House in' High Street, as well as several other prominent buildings. Subsequently Jiejeased the Auckland Hptel, which under Ms regime underwent extensive improvements and became thp' leading hotel of -ffie city. ' lit the year 1872 Mr Vialou, in 'conjunction with Mr Thomasson, commenced business in Hamilton, as builders, ironmongers, wheelwrights, &c, and this business, which in time acquired large dimensions, was conducted by the firm ,of Tliomasson and Co., and subsequently by Mr Vialou himself for many years. During this time the deceased gentleman took a lively interest in all local affairs, and when Hamilton was brought under the operation of the Municipal Corportions Act, Mr Vialou was elected the first Mayor. Subsequently for several years he sat as a councillor, and was ever distinguished for the active part he took in municipal matters. He was an energetic member of S. Peter'« Church vestry, and several times held the office of churchwardeu. He was also a prominent Mason. Owing to declining health, Mr Vialpu retired from business in Waikato, and went topside in Auckland. Latterly he appeared to have quite regained his former robust health, and undertook the management of Lake House, Rotorua, at which place he died as stated above!
