THE PROPOSED LIBRARY FOR HAMILTON.
A mkkhng of .subscribers and others inteiested was held at the council chain bets last niglit to consider tlio bebt means to adojit for the establishment of a Public Libiary in Hamilton. The Mayor, Mr Peat, was voted to the chair, and read the advertisement calling the meeting. The subscription list laid hcfoio the meeting* showed a sum of over £10 alieady pionmed. The meeting was unanimous in the opinion that it was desh able to establish a library by voluntary subscription. Mr Gelling was appointed secretary and treaburer, and a committee of management consisting of the following gentlemen was appointed, \iz., Messi.s Peit, Jessop, Bmdon, McLernon, Dey, Hally, Logic, tt Rolioway, Tuckei, G. Edgecumbe, Fieai, Hume, li. F. Sandeb, Fionch, Chitty, J. A. Bradlay, with power to add. It wa~> also decided to accept the offer made by the borough for the free use of the toll house at the biidge. It was also arranged that the comunttce should meet again on Saturday nevt at S o'clock to arrange for starting the library, and for the selection of books and other matters necessary to carry out the object in hand.
