THE TOWN DISTRICTS ACT. MEETING OF RESIDENTS OF TE AWAMUTU.
A MEBriNG of the residents of the township was held in the Public Hall on Thursday evening. Mr Sloane was voted to the chair. The object of the meeting was to discuss the advisably of forming Te Awamutii into a town district. Mr Bloane in a few l'Oinirk') explained the object of the meeting, and called upon Mr Greshatn to read the Act i elating to the formation of town districts, which he did and explained its piovisions. Mr To.isdalo wanted to know how the meeting was advertised. Mr Sloane explained that the notice was posted in a conspicuous place in the township. Mr Stichbury road a schedule of the proposed b mndaries of the town district. The boundary begins on the centre of the M.ingapiko bridge on the Ohaupo road thence m a southerly direction including the cheese factory, a portion of Messrs Potters' .f. H. Mandeno's, and the whole of Mr W. J. Bndgman's property ; part of Mr Rutherford's property including his house, from thence to the railway gate, down the line to the railway bridge over the Mangapiko river, and up the cour&e of the stream to the stai ting point. Mr Wright moved and Mr Gresham seconded." That thib meeting considers it desirable that "The Town Districts Act 1881 " should be brought into operation and tii.tt the proposed district to be constituted under such act should consist of all the laud contained within the boundaries set forth in the schedule. Mr Walton proposed as an amendment and Mr Teasdale seconded, "That the Town Districts Act be not brought into force." The amendment being put to the meeting only two \ oted for it. The motion was then put and carried unanimously. Mr Stichbury proposed and Mr Lewis seconded " That a petition to his Excellency the Governor, as provided by " The Town Districts Act 1881, be forthwith drawn up, and signed, and that a committee, consisting of Messrs Gresham, J. H. Maudeno, J. W. Bndgman, Wright, Rutheiford, R. W. Roche, and the mover be formed and deputed to take the necessary stops to give effect to the foregoing resolution. This was cariied and the meeting terminated. COMMITTEE MEETINO. Mr. J. H. Mandeno, was appointed chairman of committee. It was decided that the necessiry signatures required by the act be obtained and the meeting adjourned till Friday evening Ist .February. — Own Correspondent.
