WELLINGTON, Tuesday.

WELLINGTON, Ax accident occurred on the railway lino this evening. When the down train from Masterton had reached the summit of Rimutaka a stoppage was made Vo^ shunt six goods waggons, and while this was being done they got away on their own account, and came thundering down the incline this side. The train was sent on as soon as possible, and proceeded cautiously until a mile from the summit, where the runaway trucks were'found, having left the line at a sharp curve. Three of the trucks were completely wrecked, and the others were considerably damaged. The goods in the trucks, principally merchandise, were scattered; in all dhecticms. After half-an-hourM delay the train resumed the journey. At the Wesleyan Conference thisj morning, on the motion of the secretary f the thanks of the Conference were presented to the Rev. A. Reid for his valuable ordination charge, and it was ordered for printing in the New Zealand Wesleyan. Reports of treasury and con* nexional trusts were represented. The Rev. A. Reid presented reports of the supernumerary and. children's funds. The income for the former was £1073 14s 3d, and for the latter £1480 17s. The Rev. A. Reid and Mr Thomas Buddie w^re thanked and re-appointed. Wednesday. Muir and Co., owners of the Waipawa block, about 135 miles from Gisborne, have signed a lease to a Christchurch syndicate representing a new company with £63,000 capital, to bore for oil on the property. . A shock of earthquake was felt at lHr« this morning. Most of the horses engaged in the Wellington races are now here. Vanguard still retains the premier position for the Cup. Charles A. Watson baa been sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment for indecent exposure to three young ladies as he I was driving through Cartertou. This is] his second conviction for a similar offcncM and Watson has been a nuisance to til town for some time.
