Hamilton East.

The animal meeting of householders was held at Le Quc-ne's Hall. Theie was a good attendance, and the chair was taken by Mr L. O'Nenl. The Chairman of tlio outgoing committee, Mr Von Stunner, road the following report :— " Several impoirint changes have been made in the school since the last annusi! meeting. JCarly in tho yeat it was found necessary to obtun the removal of the head teacher; and Mi Ktesen^, tlu present master, ivas appointed. The attendance has steadily iiu 1 u.i->ik1 during his mastership. Until now there is an average attendance of .some 123 pupils. Dining the year the school has boon created a District High School, at which there are now twenty scholars, and so far from interfering with the ordinary routine of the public school, it has boen found that uith the extra teachers appointed the work of both has been more efficiently performed. During the year an attempt has been made by certain mcmbjis of the West Hamilton School Committee to induce the Bcaid of T2cli7-\ifcion to 1 nm<i1g<inj,ibe the Uvo hcinxi) ihrtricfo of [ East and West ZLmnlton, so that one committee elected by the residents on both sides of the river should manage b'lth schools. This committee, believing that such ai langemenfc would be most prejudical to the interests of fchedisti /ct— that it would practically blot out the East Hamilton voice altogether, and that as such it would be distasteful to the resident householders, opposed the proposal, which has since been allowed to drop. A sum of £27 has been obtained during the year for the certain improvements in the teacher's house, the fencing of the playgiound, and the substitution of register grates for open fireplaces in both of the schoolrooms." The secretary, Mr Dey, read the balancesheet, from which it appeared that the total receipts amounted to £12 11s Id, and the expenditure to £53 Dm 7d, leaving a credit balance of Is 5d. The meeting then proceeded to elect a committee. Tweho householders were nominated, and the ballot resuslled as follows :— W. Dcv, 37 ; Tippen, 2fi ; Le Qucsne, 17 ; Von Sturmer, 15 ; (iaudin, 13 ; B. C. Bcilo, II ; Tristram, 11 ; Coombes, 11 ; Ohitty, 10 ; Stcadman, 0 ; Hughes, 8 ; Cochrane, 7. Mr Von Sturmer having retued, the chairman declaied Mossis Dey, Tippen, Le Quesne, (icuul'u, Tristram, Coombes and Dr Beale duly elected. This was all the business, and the meeting closed with the usual compliment to the chah.
