DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANE AT RAROTONGA. Three Auckland Vessels Wrecked. Seven Lives Lost.
On the 17th .ui<l 1 8th of December Rarotonga was »iaite I by a terrific hurricane. Tlnee Aucklind schooners, fclie Agnes Bell, Makes Ariki and the Atlantic, belonging to Messrs. Donald and Eden* borough, which were auoliored offthe island in Avaraw harbour, were driven ashore and became total losses. The disaster was unhappily accompanied with loss of life. The following are the names of the drowned— Ciptain VV. Munn, master of the AgsiM Bell ; Jolin Anderson, mite ; Thomas Ay res, master of the Makea Ariki ; John Montgomery, mtte ; Patrick Duncan, cook ; Mr Stanley Heather, and a KtnAd. The vessels weie all insured, c'nefly in the New Zealand office.
