DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, Tuesday.

On Saturday at eight o'clock there was a fire in High-street by which were destroyed the premises occupied by Mr Alfred Simpson, bookbeller ; Mr Church, draper ; Mr Delman, grocer ; and Mr Smith, boot and shoemaker. The fine new building of the Empire Hotel prevented the spread of the flame'i in one direction, the brick wall of Petersen, jeweller, in the other. The heavy ram also assisted by extipguishing the large masses of burning matei lal which fell on neighbouring roofs. The Fire Brigade worked hard for three hours. The damape is estimated at about £10,000. Mr Delman was uninsured. The insurances, so far as ascertained, want certifying as to detail*?. The insurances in the late fire in Highstreet amount to £1035.
