CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this body was held at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday last. Present : Messrs Jas. Taylor (chairman), S. S. Graham, Jas. Forrest and J. Allwill. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Hautapu Pound.— Attention was drawn to the fact that Mr Camp had written to the chairman resigning his position as poundkeeper of the above pound. The letter had not reached the clerk. — Mr Forrest thought that some decision should be arrived at regarding this matter. — Mr Allwill thought the pound should be sold, and a new one erected when necessity required. — Mr Forrest did not agree with this suggestion ; the pound was an established one. They had gone to considerable coat in erecting it, and although it may be of no service at present, the time would come when it would be required.— Mr Camp's letter came to hand at this stage of the proceedings. It appeared that Mr Graham, upon whose property the pound was situated, had put a padlock and chain upon the entrance, which prevented the poundkeeper discharging his duties. — A slight discussion ensued as to the course which the board should pursue in the matter of forcibly opening the pound. — On the motion of Mr -Forrest, who thought that something should be dope by way of bringing matters to a crisis, it was agreed that the surfaceman be instructed by the clerk to proceed to the pound and break off the lock, and admit the cattle which had been impounded, and now in charge of Mr Camp. And also that the surfaceman should instruct Mr Camp he had opened the pound, and inform Trim upon whose authority. Credit Balance.— The Clerk"sfcated that the board was at present in credit to the extent of £209 14s lid. Road Damages. — Mr Forrest stated that it had been reported to him that two culverts had given way on the No. 1 Stationroad, opposite Mr Selby's farm. It was agreed to instruct the surfaceman to effect the necessary repairs, putting in drain pipes. Accounts.— Several accounts were passed for payment. Gravelling Main Road.— On the motion of Mr -Forrest it was agreed to gravel about two miles of the main road, the bad places to receive particular attention.

CoMPmrsi) Cox tracts. —The Engineer reported that the contract for the improvement at Ewon'ts Hill and the Narrows road were completed.
