LOCAL HANDICAPPING.

Blue Gown writes :— I think the time lms now arrived when Waikato, with its jockey clubs and race committeeH, should look around and appoint a local handicapper for its respective district race meetings. Hitherto large sums of money have gone out »f the district annually for handicapping, and though in the majority of cases we nave had little or no reaion to complaiu of the manner in which the work has been done, still we think matters could be somewhat better arranged within the district by some person duly qualified. It cannot 'be expected that a handicapper living at Auckland, and who seldom or never attends our district meetings, can make a satisfactory handicap with horses whose racing qualities he is to a groat extent ignoiant of. I think a well qualified man might with little difficulty bo got m Waikato to undertake this onerous, and I might also add thankless office. I hope the matter will receive earnest consideration at the hands of our district clubs and committees.
