TIMARU, Sunday. While standing at the railway station yesterday the dome with the .safety value of one of the locomotives blew up with a terriffc noise. The driver and stoker escaped without any injury whatever, and the only damage done jw.is by the dome in descendMnabhing several planks of the platform.
WELLINGTON, Sunday. The twenty-four hours' walking contest between Hcott and Edwards concluded at 10 o'clock last night, Edwards being declared the winner by one lap, 80 yards.
CHRISTOHURCH, Monday. The New Zealand Shipping Company's °w .steamer Uaiangi left London on N )veniber 13th, with a full cargo and a number of passenger*. jt^ The British King arrived at the C^^jiiJ Wood Hope on November 28th, and left the same day for Wellington.
