CRICKET. Cambridge Civilians v. Armed Constabulary.

Thi.i match, which resulted in an easy victory for the constabulary, was played at Cambridge on Saturday last. There was a fairly large attendance on the ground, but the weather, as may be expected, was not of that kind generally termed favourable. The civilians, considering their victory of the previous day, fully expected to inflict another defeat, but the fact that their joint score was excelled by that of Mr Collins alone, shows how complete their disappointment must have been. It is quite true that the civilians played under certain disadvantages, and in one instance were somewhat unfoitunate, Arnold, one of their beat men, being put out for leg-before-wicket, before he had an opportunity of making his mark. Another of their best bats, Case, was unable to attend, or otheiwi.se the score of the civilians might have been otherwise. It is to be hoped, however, the civilians will give a better account of themselves in the return match, which is expected to come off on Saturday next. As to Saturday's playing, H. Wilson made the top score for his side, but the extras scored by the civilians were more than any of the respective scores. The bowling on this side was not of a character deserving of compliment. For the constabulary, Collins bowled out no less than seven of the opponents, and not only had the unusually large score of 52 attached to his name, but succeeded in carrying out his bat. He was warmly received on retiring from the ground. Attached is a more detailed account of the scoring ;—
