TEAWAMUTU.

I oitM:in j; that tbono in "debtor difficulties " an aw aking to the fact that if they \\ ish to whitewash they must do so without delay. The new Bankruptcy Act which coiner into operation on tlie Ist January will be a boon to storekeepei s, as it will nob tlieu be so easy to "pass thiough the coiut." Thei c can be no doubt that many unscrupulous persons went into debt, quite indifieient as to whether they were over able to pay, well knowing the bankruptcy court would have them from the consequences of their dishonesty. The meeting about the Post Office was well attended on Thursday. The postmaster being a Government official daie not complain, as the powers that be have an unpleasant way of dealing with any of their .servants who tread on their corns, let it be ever so lightly, but as we are not all Govei mnont officials in this place we can speak our minds without foai of the consequences. The .school commissioners here upon reading the growl in The Waikato Timeb of Tuesday about pupil teachers having to pay their own expenses to attend the weekly class at Hamilton, made enquiries as to tlie tiuth of my statements, and finding them correct, telegraphed at once to the Boaid of Education, asking if it was compulsory for pupil teacheis living at a distance to attend those classes and pay their own ■ expenses out of their miserable salaries, and received a leply that it was not, It must be a great relief to tlie teachers to know that for the future there will not be such a drain upon their slender purses. General regiet is expressed by parents of children in this district at the action of the board in giving notice of dismissal to Mr 801 l tho music teacher. The charge of incompetence certainly cannot be brought against him, the proficiency of the childien being a marked \>vooi of his own abilities. His method of imparting instruction is excellent, and the children are always pleased to receive his lessons. Because he failed in some technical point is, I take it, no reason for his dismissal. Many other teachers of less ability are kept on ; perhaps they have friends at court. One teacher in New Zealand is an oddity in his way ; his accent proclaims his> Italian descent, audingivinghis lessons to the children he says, " hould yer mouths open aiid sing wid a will from yer chists ; ay ye mind me I'll lam ye how t ) sing," Yet such a man is retained, and a teacher confessedly his superior in every respect is to be dismissed. The ways of the board are inscrutable. It is to be hoped the petition to retain *Mr Bell's services will have the desired effect. I would also suggest the advisability of sending it here foi signatures. — (Own Correspondent.)

Fitzmaurico Sandes, surgeon dentist, registered under the Dental Act, 1880, Victoriastreet, Hamilton,' insprts a card in $is issue. Mr A.
