IMPORTANT MEETING OF NGATITAUKAWA AT CAMBRIDGE.

Thk meeting of Nuatitaukawa tribe held at Cambridge on Thursday last, was perhaps the most influential gathering of one ot the larpe tribes of the colony ever held. Ample provision was made by the resident members of the tribe for their visiting brethien, food and stimulants being in abundance. Great wisdom was shown in the new departure taken in regard to the distribution of the presents, it being resolved at the opening of the meeting that, contrary to custom,' all the supplies should remain untouched until the close of the meeting. A very clear and orderly debate then took place on various matters affecting the tribe, bhe only point ot general concern bemtr the conclusion come to as to Tawhiao's lequest to meet him at Waotu in the course of the next two or three weeks, the conclusion come to by the meeting being that they would, as a matter of courtesy, be willing to meet Tawhiao at the Waotu, but that he must name a certain day for the meeting, as their business before the Coiirfc is ot more importance than the attending of a purely formal and resultless meeting. Telegrams ,to that effect had been sent to ' Tnw liiao. The meeting throughout was very orderly, and the people generally after the distiibutiou of food were both moderate and well-behaved.
