BOROUGH OF HAMILTON. Installation of Mayor.

The ceremony of installing Mr John Knox in the office of Mayor for the second term, took place in the Council Chambers at noon yestei day. There were present : Crs Hill, (in the chair) Bradley, Jones, Vialou, Tippen, and G-audin. Several ratepayers were also present. The Town Clerk having read the notification of Mr Knox' selection, the Mayorelect made the necessary declaration, and took the chair. Cr. Hill addressing His Worship, congratulated him on behalf of the burgesses and council on his re-election. They all felt confident that the duties of the office would be as well performed in the future as they had been during the past year. (Applause.) The Mayor thanked the council for the compliment paid him by Cr. Hill, the gentleman who had congratulated him twelve months before. He wouJd endeavour to perform his duties with the same regard to impartiality as he had endeavoured to obtain during the past year, and he felt certain that the council would accoid him the name hearty support as heretofore. (Applause.) At tho invitation of the Mayor, the Company then partook of refreshments. The toastH, " The Mayor and Corporation of Hamilton," proposed by Cr. Vialou, "The first Mayor, Mr I. R. Vialou," proposed by the Mayor, " The Town Clerk," and " Tho defeated candidate in tho last Mayoralty contest," proposed by the Mayor, were all duly honored and reipotulorl to, tho ohoir boing occupied by Cr. Vialou.
