SIR GEORGE GEEY AT TE AWAMUTU.

Our To Awamutu correspondent writes : — Sir George Grey addressed a meeting here in the Public Hall on Saturday evening. It is estimated 220 persons were present. Mr J. Cunningham presided. Dealing with the railway tariff, the speaker said that gram ought to be carried from Te Awamutu to Auckland for l^d per bushel, alleging that the reduction would be the means oi making the line pay better than under the present tariff. He also condemned the whole railway management as being a bungle. In the course of his remarks, he referred to the scene enacted at his nomination for Auckland City East, dubbing it "a low political dodge," produced by a set of unprincipled men. The remainder of the address was iv effect a repetition of the remarks made at Hamilton. — On the motion ot Mr Robert Bruce, seconded by Mr H. Roche, a motion was passed thanking the speaker, and expressing confidence in him as a leader of the Liberal party. About 70 hands were held up for the motion, and only four against it.
